Best Restaurants and Cafes in Ubud: Where We Ate and What It Cost

Ubud has a lot of places to eat, and over two trips we found our favourites: Fold for breakfast, Sala Bistro for lunch and Shichirin for dinner. We also liked Ivy, Suka Espresso, Amsterdam, Two Face and Taco Casa.

This is where we went, what we ordered and what it cost for two.

Fold: our breakfast place

Fold is where we had breakfast. It is a pretty cafe with a green tiled front, a bright garden to look out on and a bar full of pastries. We had avocado toast with tomatoes, toast with smoked salmon and a fried egg, an iced coffee and a matcha latte.

Sala Bistro: lunch with a coconut

Sala Bistro was our lunch place. The sign outside says breakfast, lunch, dinner, pizza and bar. We had bowls full of avocado and fresh vegetables, and a coconut to drink. The room is high and bright, with a long bar and a window onto the street. The cocktails looked great, but we haven’t tried them.

Fold for breakfast, Sala for lunch, Shichirin for dinner.

Shichirin: the dinner I would send you to

Shichirin is the dinner place I would send you to first, and I think it is underrated. We found it by chance in 2022 and came back in 2024 for our anniversary dinner, and it was just as good. It is a Japanese restaurant with a counter where the chef cooks with flames, and it looks lovely at night.

We had sushi rolls and a plate from the menu, two cocktails and a dessert. A fancy dinner like this cost about $30 to $50 for two: one cocktail and one dish each, plus desserts.

Ivy: all day, clear food, pleasant prices

Ivy has food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the menu is clear. The prices were pleasant. We had avocado toast with eggs, an egg muffin, and a long table full of dishes at once. We had breakfast here before our ride to Jatiluwih.

More places we liked

Suka Espresso was our breakfast with avocado toast and good coffee. Amsterdam lets you build your own breakfast from a menu and serves it on wooden boards, with burgers and sandwiches too. Two Face is good for breakfast or lunch: a crispy sandwich and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Taco Casa serves Mexican food, and we had quesadillas and burritos there on the day we went to Nungnung Waterfall.

What it cost

A lunch for two with drinks and tax was about $15 to $25. A fancy dinner for two, with one cocktail and one dish each plus desserts, was about $30 to $50. Over a full day, breakfast, lunch and dinner with drinks and taxes usually came to about $50 to $60. These are the amounts we paid, not a price list.

Lunch for two$15–25
Fancy dinner for two$30–50
Food for a dayabout $50–60

Our own amounts from 2022 and 2024–25, including drinks and tax. Prices change.

How I’d plan it

If you stay in Ubud, I would plan the day like this: breakfast at Fold, lunch at Sala Bistro, dinner at Shichirin. Ivy is easy to add to any day, because the menu is clear and the prices are fair. If I did it again, I would book dinner at Shichirin in advance.
